As a school we are carefully monitoring the development of the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) and its potential impact on the health and well-being of our whole school community. We recieve regular advice from the Government and London Borough of Enfield.
For the next three weeks we have decided to cancel all parent workshops or information sessions. This is to limit the amount of contact children and staff have with large groups. We are reviewing trips on a trip-by-trip basis but will not be travelling into central London for the time being. Please see the letter below for more details.
The latest advice for schools can be found on: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19
We would kindly ask any member of staff, parent/carer or visitor who has travelled to either a Group 1 or Group 2 country to phone 111 to take advice and contact the school.
Current advice (Feb 28 2020) is that
Category 1 countries (as of 28/02/20): Wuhan City and Hubei Province (China), Iran, Daegu or Cheongdo (Republic of Korea), Any Italian town under containment measures
Category 2 countries (as of 28/02/20): Cambodia, China, North Italy (not containment areas), Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Republic of Korea (not stated in Cat1), Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
Further details can be found on: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-specified-countries-and-areas/covid-19-specified-countries-and-areas-with-implications-for-returning-travellers-or-visitors-arriving-in-the-uk
If there is a confirmed case of Coronavirus the school will be contacted by PHE for a discussion about whether we need to close or not. The current advice is that Educational settings should not need to automatically close but a decision would be made on a case by case basis.
A copy of the PHE poster can be found below.
Good hygiene measures
At school we are ensuring that all children have been told to:
- Cough into a tissue (or crook of their elbow/sleeve if they do not have a tissue)
- If they use a tissue to dispose of it immediately in a bin.
- When washing their hands to use plenty of soap and include their wrists (singing the Happy Birthday song twice is recommended length of time). Dry them with the blue paper towels.
- Use the available sanitiser (effective against bacteria and viruses) at lunchtime
Children are supervised before lunch for hand washing and in the dining hall when using the sanitiser.
Parents are asked to ensure their children wash their hands before leaving for school and reminding children of these good hygiene measures.
