From Mrs Husband

I hope everyone had a lovely Spring Holiday and Easter for those that celebrated it.   The children have returned to school refreshed and ready to learn.

Today the school has been a sea of blue as everyone marked our support for Unicef and its values! Unicef campaigns and provides support for children across the world defending their rights and helping children in some of the worst conflicts across the world.  Please see a report from children in 6S about our day.

Some families may have noticed that we have been experiencing difficulties with Arbor over the last couple of weeks, and we know that not everyone has been getting our emails.   We believe this has been fixed, but if you are experiencing difficulties please let the office know. We also, occasionally, use the Arbor In-app messaging. However, for this to work, families need to visit the App and have push notifications switched on.

This term is going to be a long and busy one! We have our trip to France, Year 4 overnight camp and Year 3 sleepover all this term – all are amazing experiences for children to spend time with their friends outside of school, and ones that  would not be possible without the support of our teachers and staff.

Year 6 have, of course, got their SATs and then the wonderful Enterprise Week and productions! All children will be assessed towards the end of term on how well they have done this year, and we will let you know the results in their end-of-term reports.

Over the next few weeks, Tottenham Football Club will be providing free coaching sessions to classes across the school. Please see a report from Year 4 on this exciting opportunity.

We are also looking at how we can develop our Sports Day into a larger family day, including a picnic at lunchtime. Please keep your eye on the dates and information nearer the time.

Celebrating UNICEF: A day in Blue by Arthur & Elissa 6S

{item_alt_tag}

A day in blue

Today is UNICEF Day at our school, and we are all dressing up in blue. It is a big yearly school tradition, and all the students have to bring a pound (including myself) and all blue clothes to symbolise the colour of UNICEF. We also hold a big assembly for the entire school to find out about what this day is about. This year’s collection is for Children in Need.

UNICEF awareness is a strong tradition in our school, as every year, at the beginning of a new school year, every class talks about the UNICEF articles and chooses 4 articles on the rights of children to follow in their class. We also choose our own UNICEF reps every year. Our reps observe how every child in school respects UNICEF values and the children who are good examples receive a leaf that goes on our UNICEF tree at the front of the school. Our reps also help decide how to celebrate UNICEF Day every year.

In the past, Mrs. Spencer and Mr. Biss have organised various events to celebrate the school’s work for UNICEF, such as: a visit from our local MP- Kate Osamer, a visit to the Houses of Parliament and many cake sales. UNICEF have been so impressed with Firs Farm’s work over the years that one year they came to our school to take photos of our children to add to their promotion brochures.

It is really nice to see the whole school come together and wear blue!

TOTTENHAM COACHING REPORT

by Teah & Amira Year 4

This term, every child in Firs Farm will have the amazing opportunity to take part in a unique session with a coach from the Tottenham Foundation. Year 4 had theirs this Thursday. It was exhausting yet so much fun!

We started with some exciting games that made us travel in different ways. So we hopped, ran and jumped! Can you see why we were so exhausted?

After the warm-up, Coach Dylan taught us ball-controlling techniques like dribbling and kick-ups. He also showed off his jaw-dropping ball skills by spinning a football on his finger. We all want to try this now! How about you?

School Nursery Update

{item_alt_tag}

We are very excited to be opening our own nursery in September.  The Nursery will be going into what is now Red Class. In the Autumn Term, we put in a bid for support for developing the classroom and toilets (as part of the government's plan to expand school-based nurseries)  and we have heard that we have funding for this.  Only 50% of applicants were approved for funding so we are delighted that our application was successful – it will really help us ensure our nursery gets off to a great start.

We have received a high number of applications and many have come from families already in school. Work will start this term and over the holidays. We will be in touch with families during this term with start dates and arrangements for wraparound care.
