From Mrs Husband

The first half of our summer term has gone in flash! Year 6 have completed their SATs and we were so proud of how well they prepared themselves both academically and emotionally. Thank you to all the staff and families that supported children in this.

We have just watched an incredible musical and poetry performance by Year 4 it showcased how much our children are able to do and perform.  What a talented bunch they are!

Year 1 and Year 4 still have their statutory tests to come, and I was so pleased to see so many families find out how they can support their child in the Year 1 phonics check.

Thank you to all those that donated to Unicef's Blue Day -we raised an amazing £750!  This will go to support Unicef's work around the world.  Thank you to Mrs Spencer for arranging this and co-ordinating it with Unicef.

Over the half-term we will start work on refurbishing our some toilets for use by our new Nursery Class. The Nursery Class will open in September and will be called Maple Class.

Our Year 5 swimming ended this week and for 2 classes they had an unexpected 4 hour coach journey! The A406 was closed and the coach got stuck the poor children and staff never made it to the swimming and came back at just after 5.30pm! Mrs Hughes has promised the children extra playtime to make up for the disappointment. Thank you to everyone for supporting us with this!

The weather this term is only just warming up but next term please make sure you send your child into school with some bottled water.  You may also wish to send your child in with a hat for playtimes/lunchtimes and apply suncream before they come into school.  If gets very hot we do amend lunchtimes to reduce the amount of time the children are out.

I hope everyone has a well earned rest over the half-term.

YEAR 5 SWIMIMNG AT THE OLYMPIC POOL

5P, 5MB and 5H recently completed their swimming programme at the London Aquatics Centre, formerly known as the Stratford Olympic Pool. Throughout the program, the children took part in daily swimming lessons where they demonstrated excellent enthusiasm, determination and enjoyment for swimming!

Over the course of the sessions, all pupils showed fantastic progression and growing confidence in the water. Many children successfully achieved certificates by meeting the core national curriculum swimming goals, including:

  • Swimming 25 metres unaided
  • Using a range of strokes effectively
  • Performing safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

The children should be extremely proud of their achievements and the positive attitudes they displayed throughout.

Well done to all of Year 5 for representing the school so brilliantly!

HEDGEHOG RESCUE AT FIRS FARM!

There was much excitement in school couple of weeks ago, when we found 2 hedgehogs had got themselves trapped in some football net.  We got them out but they had some of the next stuck on their bodies. The Wildlife Hospital at Trent Park did not hesitate to take them in and removed the net. They also treated their fleas and made sure they enjoyed their stay until they were ready to come back.

They were released over the weekend when it was nice and quiet - they quickly went back to the garden area where their home is.

The Animal Hospital were truly wonderful and treated the hedgehogs for free.  They do rely on donations and the public paying to visit the animals. Its a lovely way to spend a few hours at Trent Park if you are there or you can donate via their website. Sadly the winter has been so wet and gloomy they have not had many visitors so they do need to raise some more funds.

YEAR 6 JUNIOR CITIZENS by Asya P, Paula H & Maja D 6UH

CITIZENSHIP TRIP TO SOUTHBURY LESIURE CENTRE

On Tuesday 19th May 2026, 6UH, our class, went to Southbury Leisure Centre to Junior Citizens workshops. It was to help us learn about our responsibilities in the upcoming years. Junior Citizenship is an interactive program designed for pupils in Year 6 to help them prepare for independent travel, secondary school, and real-life emergencies. It was run by Enfield council and other community partners, such as The Ambulance services, Fire brigade, Keeping children safe on roads etc.  They taught us how to stay safe and make responsible community.

We waited at the bus stop for about 7 minutes and hopped onto the 231 bus! Upon arrival at the venue, we were greeted by the organiser who asked our teacher to split us in 3 groups to attend the workshops. We shared the workshop with another School-Saint Marys- and listened to the briefing of the what was going to happen and why we are there. Also, the man that briefed us promised a quiz at the end to get us excited.

Each group, then, started at a different station where we discussed different things. Our group proceeded to the TFL,  bus and tube scene where we acted out a ride on both types of transport and discussed how you need to behave on them. After around 15 minutes we moved on to the drug station. Our group talked about what to do when someone offers you drugs and the reasons they may do it. Also, we learned about the different forms drugs can come in. For example, a sweet or cake. Then, for the third activity, we examined fire causes and how to escape one safely. We looked at an over plugged cable and a phone on a carpet. These things are common causes for a fire. For the fourth session our group examined an incident on the road; an eleven- year- old boy fell under a car. This happened because of a distraction; his phone. After another 15 minutes we walked on to the next session. It was about what to do if someone threatened you with a knife or without. Lastly, our group learnt about making drug-free decisions. Also, we looked into smoking and vaping. To add a bit of fun the lady chose some children from my group to act out how their friends could have pressured them into vaping. I was part of this!

To end our trip we were chosen to answer some quiz questions, no surprise there, I got them right:]

This trip was short but fun and taught us how to stay safe and gave us wonderful memories we shall never forget!!!
