As usual the first half of spring term goes in a flash! It was really lovely to see so many families braving the weather (particularly on Weds night) to come and see how well their children are doing and what they need to do next.

We've had a busy few weeks with our Year 4 choirs at Wembley, an Ancient Civilisation Day and inter-school maths quiz! Sparkle class have visited Lea Valley for some Gymnastics Festivals and had a fabulous time.

Next half-term is the ever popular book week and a new competition, School council will be raising funds for Comic Relief and Sparkle Class and some Year 5 children will be taking part in the Enfield Dance Festival!

I hope everyone has a lovely half-term and gets an opportunity to rest and reset.

Young Voices 2025 – An Unforgettable Experience at Wembley!

On Wednesday 4th February, the Young Voices Choir group travelled to Wembley to perform alongside 4,000 other children. This year marked the 30th anniversary of Young Voices—an incredible celebration that brings children together from across the country to form one of the world’s largest children’s choirs.

It was a long but truly rewarding day, as the children arrived early for rehearsals ahead of the evening concert. Parents joined us for the performance in the evening, and the atmosphere in the arena was absolutely electric. A fully equipped live orchestra, professional conductor, guest artists, dancers, and spectacular lighting effects helped create a show the children will never forget.

In the weeks leading up to the event, the children showed exceptional commitment by giving up one lunchtime each week to rehearse the songs. Their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm were clear to see, and they represented our school beautifully.

The entire experience was remarkable—not only because of the scale of the performance, but also because of the opportunities it offered the children. Taking part in one of the UK’s massed arena choir concerts helped them build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and foster a genuine love for music. Being part of such a vibrant and inspiring musical community was both exciting and empowering for them.

We are incredibly proud of every child who took part. Well done, Young Voices Choir!

Year 3 Ancient Civilisation day

On Thursday 5th February, Year 3 had their Ancient Civilisation day. The children came to school dressed in Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek costumes – the teachers dressed up too!

We spent the whole day doing activities linked to the ancient civilisations that we have learnt about so far this year. We created games inspired by the Sumerians, created clay tablets like the Indus people, made pasta necklaces and wrote our names in hieroglyphics on a cartouche like the Ancient Egyptians. We ended our day with a feast of olives, cheese, bread, grapes and fruit.

The children had a great day!

YEAR 6 INTER-SCHOOL MATHS QUIZ

On the 11th of February, Amani(6UH), Sofia(6S), Ibrahim(6SH) and Haydn(6UH) went to St. Monica’s for the Primary Maths Challenge consisting of schools in Enfield. Our lunch was earlier than normal by 15 minutes. We were prepared to leave at 12:45 with Mrs Dermishi. We took an Uber. We were informed a week before by our unit teacher Mrs Suciu and was organised by Ms Xenophontos.

When we got there it was raining heavily and the competition commenced. About 8 schools attended; the head teacher of St. Monica’s had a meeting but still attended the competition. The maths lead explained how the system worked.

There were 16 questions placed all around the room and two of us went around solving, while the other two people in our team stayed at the table, trying to make a shape from the yellow shapes and solving two different problems. We had to use the clues to figure out the amount of time certain animals spent in the town pool and a bike lock with number clues. After completing round 1, we had a brief snack break with juice and biscuits. Round 2 commenced after 15 minutes. There were four different mini activities. One of them was answering a 20 question speed test using the power of collaboration. After that, we had to find the total of 24 in four separate number grids, it had to be in a two by two square adding up to 24. Another one included completing a number pyramid. The team faced hard questions, but still succeeded.

The end had come. The results were announced: for the second time in a row, year six, Firs Farm had come 1st place! All our hard work paid of and we all enjoyed ourselves.

Online Safety

We know children really enjoy being online and sharing games/chats with their friends. We also know that it is something that is a real concern for families about how they can help their child/ren stay safe online.

We have an Online Safety page here Firs Farm Primary School - Computing: Online safety for families (found under our Parent/Carers Tabs) which gives information on keeping children safe online.

We've just added a worksheet on children and social media which gives minimum ages and risks of all the main social media sites.

An overview of how to manage the sites is below (below see the PDF on the page to access the hyperlinks).
