Week 3: 4th May 2020

Our new topic book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, we will be doing fun activities based on this book for the next two weeks.

Activity 1:

Read the story of The very hungry caterpillar or the children can listen to the story from Miss Arslan's post on Tapestry. Ask the children what they liked and disliked about the story.

The children should go on a minibeast walk in their garden or the park. Which minibeasts can they find? Try looking under plant pots or stones, looking on leaves or bushes or around some plants and flowers. Talk about taking care of minibeasts with your children.

Finally, they can draw or take a picture of any minibeasts that they find?

Activity 2:

Can the children make a model of a caterpillar? They can use anything around the house to do this. E.g. egg cartons, empty boxes, tubes, pots or even play-dough.

Once the caterpillar has dried, can the children can wrap the caterpillar around some tissue to make a cocoon, also known as a pupa, for it.

Activity 3:

Listen to this brilliant song on youtube:

Talk about the life cycle of a butterfly with your children. Use the keywords attached to the post for the children to use.

Can the children record themselves telling you the life cycle of the butterfly?
We cannot wait to see the recordings.
