70th Birthday celebrations!
1954 Day
Our first BIG celebration was a 1954, where the whole school was able to dress up as staff and pupils from 70 years ago. Tables were moved into single row desks (instead of table groups), no interactive whiteboards were used and all of the lessons had a 1954 style to them. This meant dictation in English, arithmetic in Maths and learning about monarchs in History. Children had to line up in their genders to enter the classroom and staff had to sit at the front during assembly! We all sung a morning song and every time an adult entered the room, we had to stand to greet them. This is very different to the school life we live today, however lots of us (staff included!) preferred it and would like every day to be like the 1950's! Thank you to everyone - staff, pupils and parents - for supporting such a fantastically enriching day!
Money Matters
Take a look at some old fashioned coins that Mr Fury brought in for the school to look at. These coins are pre-decimalisation and are completely different to what we use today! Can you see the photo of 1 shilling? It would be equivalent to around 5p in 2024. The biggest coin in the collection is a half crown which was produced until 1967. It's modern day value varies depending on when it was produced. Thank you, Mr Fury.

Birthday Cake
At the start of the school year, each year group was set a challenge to build a cake layer themed from the 1950's all the way to present day. Never to shy away from a challenge, the staff and children worked incredibly hard to think of the headlines of their decade, and represent them on their layer. The cake looks fantastic and is so tall, we've had to put it into the large hall so each layer can be seen. Well done to everyone involved for making what has to be Enfield's biggest birthday cake!

70 letters
This week, a group of children from across the school were selected to help create a collage of pictures to decorate our wooden 70 sign that Mr Biss created. They used a selection of pictures from 1954 all the way to present day! We think it looks fantastic…make sure you find time to enjoy it yourself when you're next in the school lobby.
70th Birthday Logo Competition
WOW! What a response we had to our birthday logo competition. Thank you to the HUNDREDS of you that submitted an entry – you made it a very difficult decision for the staff to make!
After days of deliberation, the winning logo was designed by Hassan in 6XB. Well done Hassan and what a lovely legacy to leave the school with for our special birthday year. You will be able to see this logo on lots of correspondence sent out in the new academic year. Keep your eyes peeled for more celebrations after the summer holidays!
