National Fitness Day 2024
This year, Firs Farm celebrated another incredible National Fitness Day. We understand the importance of how leading a healthy, active lifestyle isn't just for the day, but for life. We took part in the National Fitness Day initiative 10@10 whereby the whole school completed an Active Mile! All children from Reception to Year 6 got out and moving - this could have been skipping, singing, dancing, jogging, running or even hopping round the playground! We also had many other activities throughout the day such as a fitness bingo, brain breaks and yoga. Some children even made videos at home talking about what their favourite sport is and gave you an insight on how to play it. Check out the videos and pictures below!

Useful information
Physical Education is a crucial part of the curriculum at Firs Farm. Each week, children participate in 2 allocated hours of PE, both indoors and outdoors. Every year, we receive a set amount of money dedicated for Sports and PE. Below are our impact statements for this amount and how we used the money last year, in addition to how we intend to use it this year.
Sports Day 2023 was a great success! With boundless energy, enthusiasm and a true sense of sportsmanship, our students from Key Stage 2 on the 27th June and Reception/Key Stage 1 on the 13th July, showcased their talents, perseverance, and teamwork. We kicked off the day with a "Chariots of Fire" Parade, cheering on our house teams! Following this, we completed a range of multisport activities ranging from Javelin, Sack Race, Egg and Spoon, Stepping Stones and many more! Sports Day ended with a fantastic line up of competitive races from all year groups...even some parents and teachers too!
Both Sports Days were filled with excitement, friendly competition, and memorable moments that truly embodied the spirit of our school community. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff worked tirelessly to organise a variety of engaging activities, ensuring that every child had an opportunity to shine and enjoy the day to the fullest.
None of this would have been possible without the invaluable support and encouragement from our dedicated parents and guardians. Thank you for cheering on our young athletes, ensuring they arrived on time, and for being their biggest fans. Your presence and enthusiasm elevated the atmosphere and made the events even more special for our children.
We must also extend our appreciation to the PTA for funding some of the new equipment that was used this year. Their commitment to promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and fair play has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on our students.
Year 4 Bikeability Course
Bikeability is the nationally recognised cycle training programme that is accessible to all children. It’s about acquiring the practical skills to cycle safely and with confidence on today’s roads. For children to participate in school Bikeability training, they must have basic riding skills (without stabilisers). There are three Bikeability levels. Year 4 completed Level 1 which is designed to give children control over their bike and takes place in groups in a space away from traffic such as a playground or closed car park. Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were pleased when receiving their badge and certificate at the end! You can visit the Cycle Confident website at www.cycleconfident.com for details.
