Take One Picture 2023
Take One Picture is the national programme for primary schools, which aims to inspire a lifelong love of art and learning. Every year, The Gallery takes one picture from the collection to inspire cross-curricular work in primary classrooms. The focus painting for the 2024 exhibition is 'Surprised!' by Henri Rousseau. A flash of lightning and a clap of thunder, a tiger crouches in thick jungle foliage with its back arched and teeth bared – but is it the hunter, or the hunted?
Firs Farm pupils participated in Talking Paintings Guided Tour at The National Gallery during the summer term in preparation for our Take One Picture Art week in September 2023. We explored how the painting can be used to inspire learning across the curriculum, from art and literacy to science, geography and more.
During the Art week, September 2023, pupils created spectacular pieces art work to showcase their talent and hard work. Their creativity was admired by parents/carers at the Art Exhibition which was held in the School Large Hall on Thursday 5th October 2023.
